Director's Message

The year 2000 was a very active and successful year for CSEM. During the earlier part of the year, the Center signed an agreement with the County of Orange to provided statistical information about the high tech sector and international trade. The first installation appeared in the 2001 Community Indicators Report that was introduced by Mike Ruane at the Economic Update, sponsored by the Orange County Business Council and featuring Dean Anil Puri.

In a very short time CSEM has become a dynamic organization that is providing important assistance to the international trade community. Through its database of over 5,000 companies, it has helped to match buyers and sellers within its intranet of affiliate centers. During the remainder of the year we continued to sponsor more affiliates and finalized agreements early in 2001 creating branches in Bangkok, Neurtingen, Germany, and the Philippines. The Center also agreed to set up a satellite office at the California-Mexico Trade Center in Santa Ana that was inaugurated by President Vincente Fox, Governor Gray Davis, and Secretary of Commerce Evans in March of 2001.

In addition, CSEM has continued to expand its network of sponsors and partner companies. The Center now has the ability to assist U.S. exporters as well as foreign companies attempting to enter the U.S. markets and even raise capital there.

I am pleased to acknowledge the help of many volunteers, the office staff, and the student interns from the College of Business and Economics at Cal State, Fullerton. Our objective for the coming year will be to continue to grow and increase the number of affiliates globally. All of our activities will be aimed at promoting the free flow of information and trade to the rest of the world.
